A Hero’s Welcome Home

Warrior House is a place that specializes in comfort – when comfort is needed most.
The mission of the Onslow County refuge is to provide temporary guest housing for families whose Camp Lejeune military relatives have been wounded in battle. Family members are welcome to use the Warrior House accommodations until they can find suitable long-term housing in the county or surrounding area.
The wounded military members live with their relatives during the entire Warrior House stay. In addition, the house also offers lodging for people visiting wounded service members who are recuperating at the Wounded Warrior Barracks at Maxwell Hall or in the Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune.
One of the key ideas of Warrior House is that spouses and their families can benefit from the camaraderie and shared experiences of others in the same situation.
There are currently two homes on base; both were donated by Atlantic Marine Corps Communities. Meanwhile, local community members and area companies have donated all of the furnishings and comfort items.
Each furnished Warrior House is designed to look and feel like a regular home so that the temporary residents can focus on the needs of their loved ones. The houses are equipped with a full kitchen and dining room, laundry room, an open living room, bathroom and two bedrooms.
Warrior Houses also have ramps, roll-in showers and widened doorways for family members to further care for wounded Marines and sailors. Other furnishings include a fully equipped office that features a new computer system and Internet service, plus a screened-in porch, covered carport and fencing to provide privacy.
A third home in the network also is being used as a Warrior House Resource Center, which serves as a hub to offer assistance to service members and their visiting families.
